JEDDAH: In a bold initiative to encourage self-reliance and sustainable income for cottage industries-based businesses, Monteja a benevolent society committed to the well-being of families in the cottage industry — has opened the Sales Outlets project in Historic Jeddah, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The scheme provides fully fitted booths where families can showcase and sell their locally made and homemade products. This project is a landmark move towards turning small-scale producers into independent income earners in the Makkah region.
Essam Al-Basrawi, Monteja Chairman, stated that the first phase involves 20 chosen families. He further stated that the society aims to increase the number of outlets and locations throughout Jeddah in future phases.
Monteja’s Executive Director, Maram Hameed Al-Deen, commended the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Historic Jeddah District Program, which was a key factor in launching the initiative.
Al-Deen further indicated that Monteja plans to penetrate a larger segment of its membership base — currently numbering more than 7,000 families within Jeddah by providing new avenues for exposure, business development, and sustained income generation.
