Hail Launches Smart Recycling Machine That Feeds Stray Animals and Cuts Plastic Waste

Hail Smart recycling machine for stray animals

HAIL In a move that combines sustainability with compassion, Hail Municipality has launched an innovative smart recycling machine that helps feed stray animals while reducing plastic waste. Part of the “Saqya Rahma” initiative, the machine allows residents to deposit leftover food and water into special compartments and recycle empty plastic bottles —all of which are converted into meals for stray cats and dogs across the region.

“The goal is to turn recyclable materials like plastic bottles and unused food into a useful resource — one that supports stray animals and helps protect the environment,” said Saud Al-Ali, assistant secretary of Hail Region for Media and Corporate Communication.

He added that the initiative reflects a commitment to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes environmental sustainability and improving quality of life.

The machine does more than just recycle: it’s designed to encourage long-term behavior change by making sustainability a visible, meaningful part of everyday life. Every bottle recycled contributes to feeding animals in a clean, safe way.

Win-Win for People, Animals, and the Planet

Local resident Mohammad Al-Lahham, who regularly cares for stray cats, welcomed the move:

“This system not only helps reduce plastic pollution but also ensures our stray animals are cared for. People are more likely to recycle when they know it makes a direct difference.”

Al-Lahham pointed out that better care of animals also benefits public health by minimizing disease risks linked to dead or malnourished strays.

“Clean cities, healthier animals, and active community participation it’s a full-circle win.”
