Saudi Students Bag Four Medals at 55th International Physics Olympiad in Paris

PARIS: Saudi Arabia National Physics Team has achieved exceptional triumph at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), held in Paris from July 17 to 25, winning four medals among international competition.

Mazen Al-Shakhs received a silver medal, whereas Hussein Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Arfaj, and Ali Al-Hassan each received a bronze medal, bringing the Kingdom pride on the global academic scene.

With this latest achievement, Saudi Arabia’s total as a whole at the IPhO stands at seven silver medals, 23 bronze, and 22 certificates of appreciation since it began competing.

This year, the Olympiad hosted 425 high school students ranked as the best from 85 nations. Beginning in Warsaw, Poland, in 1967, the IPhO has a rotating annual host nation. In 2026, it will finally occur to Colombia, and the subsequent competitions will be held in Bucaramanga.

Saudi Arabia’s outstanding performance is the result of rigorous preparation provided by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in coordination with the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Saudi Aramco.

The International Olympiad in Physics is among the most competitive high school academic contests worldwide. As a competition that has existed for 58 years, countries like China, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States have dominated the medal tables.

This year, again, the Kingdom’s success indicates the rising level of scientific education and the nurturing of talent in Saudi Arabia, which provides a new generation of globally competitive minds.
