UAE and U.S. Sign Deal to Accelerate Patent Grants, Boost Innovation Ties

Geneva, : The United Arab Emirates and the United States of America have signed a Joint Statement of Intent to launch a bilateral cooperation programme aimed at expediting patent granting procedures in the UAE. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

The agreement was signed by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Under the joint statement, the two parties will establish collaborative mechanisms to recognize positive examination results issued by the USPTO for corresponding Emirati patent applications, in accordance with each country’s applicable laws and regulations.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, stated that this bilateral cooperation reflects the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its intellectual property (IP) ecosystem by adopting international best practices. The focus, he noted, is on enhancing industrial property rights and streamlining patent registration processes to better serve the needs of inventors and entrepreneurs.

“This strategic partnership with the United States represents a significant step in accelerating patent issuance,” Al Marri said. “By enhancing international cooperation and adopting advanced operational models, we aim to provide faster and more efficient protection for innovators. This will further consolidate the UAE’s position as a regional hub for intellectual property rights protection and foster a more innovation-driven, entrepreneurial economy.”

He added that the new collaboration will contribute to an encouraging environment for innovation and investment in knowledge- and technology-based sectors, reinforcing the UAE’s readiness for a future centered on creativity and economic diversification.

The initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader agenda to develop the national industrial property system by simplifying procedures and delivering high-quality, adaptable services that support business growth and innovation. The UAE continues to enhance its legislative and operational frameworks in alignment with global standards, reinforcing its status as a competitive and future-ready knowledge economy.
