Dubai Fines 159 Companies Dh50,000 Each for Violating UAE Telemarketing Rules

Dubai has intensified the crackdown on unsolicited telemarketing calls, with 159 companies being fined Dh50,000 each for contravening the UAE’s recently introduced regulations on telemarketing. A further 174 companies were cautioned to get into line with the law.

The fines are covered by Cabinet Decision No. 56 of 2024, intended to avoid intrusive marketing activities and protect consumer privacy. Effective August 2024, the rules prohibit calling persons on the Do Not Call Registry (DNCR) by TDRA, restrict calls to the period between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and require the caller to disclose if the call is being recorded.

The law covers all licensed firms in the UAE, including those operating in free zones. It also prohibits the sharing or sale of consumers’ personal information without authorisation.

Penalties range from Dh10,000 for not properly training marketers to Dh150,000 for repeated contraventions without prior approval for telemarketing. Companies can appeal penalties via approved channels.

The authorities said the step is part of a broader effort to ensure proper market practices, protect consumers, and eliminate nuisance calls from the UAE.
