Saudi Scouts Present Culture and Leadership at 16th World Scout Moot in Portugal
JEDDAH: The Saudi Arabian Boy Scouts Association (SABSA) has been an active participant at the 16th World Scout Moot, which is a global scout gathering of Rover Scouts taking place in Portugal from July 25 to August 3. The official launch of the event took place in Lisbon, which has attracted over 6,000 youth from across the globe.

The Saudi delegation has 93 delegates, with 72 Rover Scouts male and female representing different sectors of the association, 17 members of the International Service Team, and a four-member administrative team.

Mubarak bin Awad Al-Dosari, SABSA’s media officer, stated that the event provides Saudi youths with a worthwhile opportunity to share cultures, make new international friendships, and participate in leadership development. “This event is a chance to acquire even more scouting experience, new friendships and relationships with scouts from all over the world and to promote and introduce Saudi culture in front of others,” he said.

Within the “Paths” program, participants will journey through various regions within Portugal, exploring the rich heritage and varied landscapes of the country. Upon conclusion of the discovery journey, scouts will come together at the main camp in Bucaco, close to Porto, for a five-day hands-on program on environmental awareness, cultural exchange, and authentic Portuguese traditions.

Saudi guests will also participate in the International Day for Cultural Exchange, where they will showcase traditional Saudi food, attire, jewellery, and serve Saudi coffee, providing a glimpse into the Kingdom’s heritage.

Workshops, hiking excursions, visits to landmarks, and interactive culture programs are also on the agenda, aimed at developing global citizenship and personal growth.

The World Scout Moot, held every four years, is open to youth aged 18–25, while those over 26 join as members of the International Service Team. SABSA considers such international involvement vital to empowering young Saudis as globally aware leaders and strengthening their capacity for intercultural understanding.

The event will conclude with a closing ceremony in the city of Porto.
