Israeli Airstrikes Ongoing in Gaza Amid Signs of Ceasefire Progress
Israeli forces conducted more airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip on Thursday, including ones purported to target civilians trying to receive humanitarian assistance. At least 24 Palestinians died in the latest round of violence, said local health authorities.
In the meantime, U.S. President Donald Trump said there was a “good chance” that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas would be signed within the week.
Trump’s comments are made as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is due in Washington, D.C., for negotiations while simultaneous talks take place in Qatar.
Israel’s continued military action has killed at least 57,523 Palestinians and injured over 136,000, says Gaza’s Health Ministry. It all began after the October 7, 2023, attack in southern Israel led by Hamas, where an estimated 1,139 people were killed and over 200 hostages taken.
While diplomatic pressures mount, the humanitarian costs grow higher, calling for international demands of an immediate ceasefire and greater access to relief.
