Saudi Cinema Records SR100 Million Milestone in 2025, Signaling Rapid Industry Growth
RIYADH, The Gulf Observer – Saudi films have surpassed SR100 million in box office revenues since the start of 2025, reflecting the Kingdom’s accelerating momentum in cinematic production and the growing trust of local audiences in homegrown stories.
According to the Saudi Film Commission, eight Saudi films collectively captured 19% of the total box office share this year. These include Shabab Al-Bomb 2, Hobal, Al-Zarfa, Is’af, Fakhr Al-Suwaidi, Leil Nahar, Saifi, and Tashwish all contributing to a significant milestone for the Kingdom’s entertainment sector.
Box office performance remained robust into mid-July. From July 13 to 19, cinemas across Saudi Arabia reported SR26 million in ticket sales. The week’s top performer was the American release F1 The Movie, with earnings of SR26.3 million, closely followed by the Saudi feature Al-Zarfa, which pulled in SR22.6 million, showcasing the rising strength of domestic productions.
Other high-grossing films included Superman (SR7.7 million) and the Egyptian comedy Ahmed and Ahmed (SR3.5 million), further diversifying audience preferences in Saudi theaters.
The Saudi Film Commission noted that the surge in revenues and increased audience turnout reflect the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s cultural initiatives aimed at empowering local talent and positioning Saudi Arabia as a growing regional hub for film and creative industries.
